South Australians enjoy a Mediterranean climate, with warm sunny days for much of the year and a short, mild winter.
Adelaide’s average maximum daily temperature in the summer months – December to February – ranges between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, with night temperatures averaging in the mid teens
- winter is mild in Adelaide, with maximum temperatures in June to August between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius
- most of Adelaide’s rain falls between April and October
- spring and autumn in Adelaide are warm and sunny, with average daily maximums in the low to mid 20s
- when temperatures climb, Adelaide residents head for the clean, white beaches that line the coast of the metropolitan area between Semaphore to the north and Carrickalinga to the south
the Adelaide Hills that form an eastern boundary to the Adelaide Plains are another popular destination in summer, as is Victor Harbor, a coastal town an hour’s drive south of Adelaide
