Once you are here

Welcome to South Australia

Make yourself at home...

Jo Anne and her family from the UK

One of the quickest and easiest ways to settle into your new home is to meet people.

You'll soon find that South Australians are friendly, helpful and will often stop to talk.

When you go into a shop, you'll often be asked: "How are you doing?"—and it's usually a genuine question!

Even in the larger urban centres, people make the effort to get to know each other. Don't be surprised if you get a visit from the neighbours; but if not, don't be afraid to call around to introduce yourself. It won't be regarded as anything strange. Aside from the comfort and security of knowing people who live nearby, you'll also benefit from having a great source of local information.

To follow is a listing of useful contacts, organisations and links relating to transport, health, government, local laws and utilities.

The Department of Immigration & Citizenship also publish a useful booklet, available in 24 languages, called 'Beginning a life in Australia'.
