If an employer wishes to give you a skilled job in South Australia—a job that cannot be filled by an Australian citizen or permanent resident, that employer can apply to sponsor your migration to South Australia through the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS).

If an employer wants to employ you, the position has to be available for a minimum of two years.

RSMS process

Stacey from the UKEmployer-sponsored migration has to be initiated by the employer who has agreed to sponsor you.

The employer must make the job available to you for a minimum of two years, and undertake a three-stage process:

  1. Employer lodges nomination for certification.
  2. Certified nomination is lodged with DIAC for their consideration.
  3. Applicant lodges separate visa application for processing with DIAC. (Takes five months on average for complete applications).

RSMS is a permanent visa.

Finding an employer to sponsor you

Please note, there is no list of South Australian employers who may be interested in nominating an overseas skilled worker for a vacancy. However, if you have specialist skills, you should be exploring the South Australian labour market.
